Every ministry of the Somali government operates under law; the Ministry of Interior is no exception.
The ministry was first established under the “Ordinamendo governo” of 3 June 1962. After an eight-year rename to Local Government and Rural Development, the Interior name was restored by Presidential Decree JDS No. 14 of 15 March 1984, and structured under Law No. 30 of 30 July 1984.
Today Somalia is a federal republic; the ministry is the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs & Reconciliation, operating under the Provisional Constitution adopted on 1 August 2012.
