The Handover Ceremony for the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation FGS

At MOIFAR’s handover ceremony on the 13th of August 2022, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre thanked the outgoing Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation H.E Gen Mukhtar Hussein Afrah for his service and dedication to the people of Somalia and welcomed incoming Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi to the role.

The Prime Minister stated that the government of Somalia has a mandate which trickles down to each ministry, and expressed his commitment to empowering and safeguarding MOIFAR’s mandate. The Prime Minister went on to state that agencies and units founded by and falling under the mandate of MoIFAR include National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI), The Independent Boundaries and Federalism Commission (BFC), the National Identification and Registration Authority (DADSOM) and the Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) and Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA).

In conclusion, the Prime Minister stated that MoIFAR plays a crucial role in achieving the vision of a peaceful Somalia “Somali Heshiis Ah” as it is the governmental body mandated with reconciliation, a function without which, we will not be able to achieve a peaceful society or progress.

On the other hand, His Excellency Ahmed Moalim Fiqi thanked the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia H.E Hamza Abdi Barre, the former Minister of Interior, Federal affairs and Reconciliation H.E Mukhtar Hussein Afrah, the outgoing and incoming State and Deputy Ministers, attendees from MoIFAR’s umbrella institutions including NCRI, DADSOM, BFC and NIEC, traditional elders, the media, advisors, staff and all other distinguished guests who took part of this important day.

The Minister also thanked MoIFAR’s partners, donors, and international humanitarian agencies without whom the work of the ministry would not be possible. Going forward, strengthening the relationships and cooperation with these partnerships is a MoIFAR priority.

Further, the minister stated that as a government it is important to respect and safeguard the mandates and division of responsibilities as set by the constitution of Somalia. It is unfortunate to see the work and the mandate of MoIFAR dismantled and taken over by other governmental units, the minister expressed his commitment to bringing back all the functions and mandates of the ministry to their rightful offices within MoIFAR.

Finally, the Minister of Interior, Federal affairs, and Reconciliation expressed the importance of the ministry’s work in managing the Six Key Pillars of the Federal Government and working towards expediting and achieving the government’s plan.
