The Minister for Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation Ahmed Fiqi commended the government of Norway for its unwavering support for Somalia’s stabilisation efforts.

Speaking during a meeting with officials from the embassy of Norway in Mogadishu, Minister Fiqi said Norway has been a long-standing partner in stabilisation and local governance initiatives in Somalia.

The Minister expressed that MoIFAR is committed to fostering a close partnership and cooperation with the government of Norway and its embassy in Somalia.

On his part, the Norwegian charge d’affaires Haakon Svane said the meeting focused on cooperation with the Interior Ministry, adding that stabilisation and reconciliation remained the key elements to Norway’s partnership in Somalia.


The meeting was also attended by the Norwegian Head of Development and Cooperation in Somalia Erling Johnsen among other senior officials of MoIFAR.

Norway has provided significant support to Somalia since 2012, especially in state-building initiatives, peacebuilding, reconciliation, humanitarian relief, and debt relief through bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
