The Director General of the Ministry of Interior

Mr. Abdulkadir Elmi Ali is the Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, with over 15 years of experience in public administration, federal governance, and institutional reform.

He has held senior leadership roles including Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency and Chief Elections Coordinator in the Office of the Prime Minister, where he played a key role in managing national systems and supporting the successful 2021 electoral process.

He also brings more than a decade of international experience with the United Nations (ILO and UNOPS) across East Africa and the Horn of Africa, focusing on institutional strengthening, community development, livelihoods, and durable solutions for displaced populations. Mr. Abdulkadir holds multiple postgraduate degrees and is a PhD candidate in International Relations, with expertise that supports federalism, reconciliation, and inclusive, accountable governance in Somalia.
