Department of Social Affairs
The Department of Social Affairs is a crucial division. It has various sections for carrying out diverse activities including those pertaining to awareness, the elderly, civil society organizations, human rights, and neighborhood management.
Duties of the Department of Social Affairs:
- Registering and issuing identities to traditional Somali elders.
- The development of policies and regulations to govern traditional elders.
- Supporting federal member states on issues regarding society and elders.
- Providing legal and financial support to elders.
- Neighborhood reconciling and management.
- Cooperating with and assisting other departments of The Ministry.
- Training and capacity-building for the staff of the department.
- Training and enhancing the skills and knowledge of the elders.
- Preparing the development plan for the Banadir region Neighborhoods Program.
- Resolving neighborly disputes within the state of Banadir.
- Monitoring Human Rights situations in the country.
- Monitoring persons with special needs in Somalia.
- Running awareness campaigns on ministry led reconciliation.
- Coordination with civil societies and drafting regulations and acts to manage them.
