Department of Reconciliation

The Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation is in charge of implementing key factors of consolidation such as a genuine and comprehensive reconciliation process, conflict resolution policies, working for peace, and promoting stability. As a result, in order to address these issues effectively, The Ministry established a department to work on the implementation of reconciliation policies on behalf of the federal government.

Objectives of the Department:

  1. Creating tools that will help in establishing a peaceful, prosperous, and long-lasting Somalia, putting an end to the nation’s social and political conflicts.
  2. Bringing the conflict-torn population back together and establishing unified communities.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the department of reconciliation are both political and social.

 

The political roles:

  1. To secure political stability, and to prevent any political conflicts that may arise.
  2. Expediting unification of all territories: In order to create a united Somalia, the department plans to move forward with processes involving the territorial sovereignty of the nation.

The social responsibilities:

The Department of Reconciliation serves as a technical expert in the implementation of The Ministry’s policy on issues of reconciliation. It also drafts laws and offers legal advice on matters of reconciliation, mediates political and social disputes, creates genuine legislation, and hosts reconciliation meetings.

 

Their other responsibilities of the department include:

  • Directing cooperation between the departments of The Ministry and other federal agencies.
  • The prevention and resolution of social and political conflicts.
  • Assisting the ministries of the regional governments in matters of reconciliation and conflict resolution with employees.
  • Working with local and international organizations involved in the reconciliation process of the country
  • Training and improving the quality of the department’s staff.
  • The department is working to finish ongoing reconciliation targets and to start, plan, and to plan more in areas of conflict.
  • Educating the public about issues of reconciliation in order to create a society that fosters peace.
