On October 19,2023, The Federal Government of Somalia, in fulfilling its duties and obligations to maintain the unity and cohesion of the nation, has extended an invitation to the leader of the interim administration of SSC-Khatumo and his delegation.
The aim of this invitation was to engage in consultations on the situation of the region and the country at large. After in-depth discussions that touched on political, security, and humanitarian aspects, the following agreements were reached:
- The Federal Government reiterates its support for the resolutions reached by the traditional leaders during their meeting in Lasaanod on 06/02/2023. It also welcomes and commits to working with the interim administration established by the local populace.
- The Federal Government consistently advocates for and supports all endeavors that aim to establish peace and stability in that region, while insisting that all disputes should be addressed through dialogue and negotiation. The Federal Government also commends the SSC-Khatumo administration for their willingness to observe a ceasefire and foster peaceful coexistence.
- The Federal Government of Somalia strongly encourages both Somaliland and the SSC-Khatumo administration to observe a ceasefire and free any detainees in their custody. Furthermore, the Federal Government stands ready to assist and support relevant peace initiatives.
- In exercising its obligations, the Federal Government is swiftly implementing measures to revitalize and strengthen social services in the region, encompassing areas such as education, health, water supply, and broader humanitarian efforts.
- The Federal Government earnestly calls upon national institutions, the Somali people, and the international community to extend immediate humanitarian assistance to the impacted areas.
