On the 5th of October 2023, in Mogadishu, the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation H.E Ahmed Moallim Fiqi had a courtesy meeting with the newly appointed Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations and Resident Coordinator in Somalia Mr. George Conway, for a discussion on Stabilization, Local Governance, Peace Building and Humanitarian Aid efforts in Somalia.
Minister Fiqi took this opportunity to thank the DSRSG for the United Nation’s humanitarian efforts to avert famine in Somalia last year, adding that the government of Somalia alongside its UN partners are committed to breaking the cycle of environmental shocks which have been facing Somalia.
Minister Fiqi further expressed that Somalia is going through a very exciting time, a time where communities and government alike are fighting to rid the region of the Khawarij terrorist gangs, and a time where stabilization, reconciliation, state-building and local government initiatives are a priority for all.
On the other hand, Mr. Conway expressed his commitment and excitement to working closely with the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, explaining his plans to strengthen the partnership and cooperation between his office and the Ministry.
