His Excelency Ahmed Mo’alim Fiqi, Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, hosted an Iftar gathering to initiate dialogue and pave way for the reconciliation of the neighbouring Wagardhac and Sa’ad clans in Galmudug. In attendance were community leaders, politicians and women representatives from each side.
“The purpose of the meeting is to resolve a 40-year-old dispute between clans that has not been resolved, at a time when other clans have made significant progress. I urge the two communities to engage in peace, I’m calling on the leaders of both communities to invest in peace, stability, and recovery” , His Excelency Ahmed Mo’allim Fiqi, Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation.
Also in attendance were the Director General and senior reconciliation staff of the ministry.
Senator Abdi Hassan Awale Qaidid, who was one of the officials at the event, thanked MoIFAR for organising this adding that reconciliation and peace must be initiated from the roots of this conflict.
Also in attendance was Professor Abdirahman Badiyow, the presidential adviser on reconciliation, stated the early signs of reconciliation are evident in the gathering and that both sides should prepare to establish and maintain peace.
General Abdiwali Jama (Gorad), the former commander of the Soamlia’s National Army spoke at the gathering. Remarking that this meeting is between two brotherly communities who are ready for dialogue. That it is a shame that it took us 40 years to resolve a conflict, but late is better than never. The General further thanked the Federal Ministry of Interior and the leadership of Minister Ahmed Mo’allim Fiqi.
