Committee for the Relief of the Earthquake Victims in Türkiye, Handover event.

On Sunday the 6th of March 2023 at the National Theater, the Somali Committee for the Relief of the Earthquake Victims in Türkiye is gathered to handover Somalia’s contributions to the Embassy of Türkiye in Mogadishu.

 

The Speaker of the House of Representatives and Acting President Hon. Aden Madobe, the Prime Minister of Somalia H.E Hamza Abdi Barre, the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation H.E Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and the Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir, Hon. Yusuf Hussein Jimale were among Somali officials who attended this event.

 

In his opening remarks, Somalia’s Minister of interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation H.E Ahmed Moallim Fiqi thanked the Committee for their tireless effort, and for showing the world that Somalia always stands with its brotherly nation of Türkiye. He also thanked those that took part in facilitating this programme such as Jazeera Hotel and Somali Media.

 

The Minister then announced that the Somali Business Community, the Banadir Regional Administration, Somalia’s House of Representatives, the Southwest State Government the Education Sector, Somali Women’s Association and the Somali Public contributed $4,818,477 equivalent to 90,714,127.95 TL. The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir, Hon. Yusuf Hussein Jimale, then announced that the Banadir Regional Administration will contribute a further $182,000 to the Turkish Earthquake Victims’ Relief Fund. This brings Somalia’s total contribution to $5,000,000.

 

“We cannot possibly repay all that Turkey has done for us. But we put our hearts into raising this amount and it is our hope that it will alleviate the plight of our brothers and sisters. And we hope that it will show the world that Somalia always stands with it’s friends” He concluded, E Ahmed Mollim Fiqi, Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation.

“The people of Somalia despite going through very difficult times took it upon themselves to raise funds for Türkiye. That is a reflection of how much we value and care for Türkiye”, Hon Adan Mohamed Madobe, Speaker of the House of the People, Federal Parliament of Somalia.
