The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation today received the leadership of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), who delivered a comprehensive briefing on the current humanitarian situation across the country.
The update covered a range of emerging challenges, including delayed rainfall, rising health concerns, food security pressures, and limited water accessibility in several regions. SoDMA explained that shifting climate patterns and prolonged dry conditions continue to strain community resilience, while health risks and reduced access to essential services are heightening vulnerability among affected populations.
The Agency also outlined the steps being taken to address these issues, including strengthening early warning and monitoring systems, improving coordination with federal member states, pre-positioning essential supplies, and working closely with partners to expand water access and support emergency health services.
The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing preparedness, supporting SoDMA’s efforts, and ensuring a coordinated response to safeguard the wellbeing of Somali citizens during this challenging period.
