In a landmark legislative development, Somalia’s Federal House of Representatives has officially passed the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Bill and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Bill, both drafted by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation (MoIFAR).
These two pivotal bills represent significant progress in strengthening governance, advancing inclusive development, and safeguarding the rights of all Somali citizens.
• The CRVS Bill lays the foundation for a modern, reliable system to record vital events such as births, deaths, marriages, and divorces—crucial for planning, service delivery, and legal identity.
• The IDP Bill provides a legal framework to protect the rights and dignity of internally displaced persons, ensuring coordinated and rights-based responses to displacement across the country.
MoIFAR applauds this legislative milestone and reaffirms its commitment to effective implementation, institutional reform, and inclusive governance that leaves no one behind.
