Remarks From The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs And Reconciliation On Day Two of The 2nd Phase of Heritage Institute’s 7th Annual Forum for Ideas

 

 

Mogadishu 05 Mar 2024; At the plenary session of Heritage’s #AFI2023Phase2, the Interior Minister of Somalia HE Ahmed Moalim Fiqi was asked about the solution to the problems that have arisen, especially conflicts and terrorism.

 

The Minister Fiqi highlighted that the current disputes are mainly political, with people holding onto the past, adding that there is no vendetta among society. He noted that society has recovered from the past feud. He has proposed a number of suggestions that can lead to sustainable and ever-lasting solutions which read like this:

 

(1) A peaceful and inclusive process which can lead to one person, one vote.

(2) Empowering and developing institutions to solve the problem, which means establishing government institutions that deal with these issues.

(3) Developing the culture of dialogue and working to build public trust.

(4) Investing in social networking and reconciliation to achieve peace, equality, and justice.

 

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Somalia concluded his speech by stating, “Somali society has turned from the direction of conflicts; it is now at the point of learning the direction of conflict and mistrust, and it is headed for peace, equality, and democracy.”
