The Deputy Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation H.E Abdihakim Ashkir received a delegation led by UNHCR Special Envoy of the Horn of Africa

 

The Deputy Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation H.E Abdihakim Ashkir received a delegation led by UNHCR Special Envoy of the Horn of Africa Ambassador Mohamed Affey. In discussion, Somalia’s efforts addressing the concerns of Refugees and IDPs.

 

In attendance, the Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Aidarus Moallim Hassan, the Commissioner for Refugees and IDPs Safia M. Seed and the UNCHR Country Representative Magette Muise among other officials.

 

Amb. Mohammed Abdi Afey, who led the UNHCR delegation provided information to the ministry on the situation of Somali Refugees in the Horn of Africa and the assistance provided by UNHCR. Thanking Somalia for contributing to the global refugee solutions. “Even in the most difficult of circumstances, the government and people of Somalia have been hosting refugees and IDPs from other parts of the world. For that we are thankful” he said.

 

On his side, H.E Abdulhakim Ashkir thanked UNHCR for the work they are doing to address the concerns of IDPs and Refugees and for being a close partner to the people of Somalia in their time of need.

 

Following this meeting the delegation then visited the Baar Bulsho IDP camp in the Saiyad region to observe the situation of Somali IDPs to have a look at the living conditions of the residents of the camp. Concerns including the lack of housing that can endure this rainy Mogadishu season.
