The Validation Workshop for Local Government Gender Advocacy Strategy

Mogadishu July 23, 2023; The Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Aidarus Moallim Hassan opened the Validation Workshop for Local Government Gender Advocacy Strategy in Mogadishu, Somalia today.

In attendance were Directors and representatives of the Ministries of Interior and Women in the Federal Member States and the Banadir Regional Administration.

In his remarks, the Director General spoke about the important of the discussion on women’s participation in local governments and community level leadership. “The purpose of the strategy is to ensure that women are part of government, especially the local governments, to be elected, to vote, to lead”, – Aidarus Moallim Hassan, Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation.

MoIFAR’s Senior Gender Advisor Ms. Sadia Mohamed Omar presented the Local Government Gender Advocacy Strategy at today’s workshop covering topics such as ensuring political participation of women and the existing challenges.

To conclude this gathering, the representatives of the Federal Member States and the Banadir Regional Administration approved the strategy, paving the way for the next phase of implementation.
