The National Displacement Social Cohesion Policy forum

“We are committed to finding durable solutions to the concerns of IDPs, while protecting their rights as citizens of this country.” The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation opened a forum on the National Displacement Social Cohesion Policy.

“The IDPs among us are citizens who are entitled to their rights. As a government, we must focus on unifying and ensuring harmony between IDPs and their host communities.”

 

Following the opening session, the Director General of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs of Southwest State, Mr Diini A. Mohamed talked about the IDP situation in Baidoa, saying that it is home to over a million IDPs. A fact that makes this forum a priority for the state.

The Galmudug Commissioner for Refugees and IDPs (GCRI) also took participants through the status of the durable solutions initiatives, challenges and way forward. As well as the Chairman of the IDP commission in Jubaland speaking on the need for a permanent solution to the reoccurring concerns that face IDPs in Somalia. Adding that the time has come for the government to set deliberate and targeted policies that address this issue.
