2nd Somalia Mayors Forum, Closing Ceremony

 

Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi is joined by FMS Ministers, Banadir Regional Administration and nineteen Mayors from all over Somalia for the third and final day of the 2023 Somalia Mayors Forum.

 

Also, in attendance, international partners and local governance experts.

On the last day of the Somalia Mayor Forum, FMS Ministers of Interior thanked Mr. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi for his commitment to empowering local governments. Adding that before the next forum they will work towards elected (instead of appointed) mayors who are a reflection of their communities.

 

Representatives from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) give an overview of their operations and how the system will be delivered to local governments to ensure that ten million people in Somalia are registered by the year 2026.

Speaking at the Somalia Mayors Forum, Abdirahman Aden of UN-HABITAT, on behalf UNJPLG stated that they will continue to support forums such this one, as it unifies Federal, State and District efforts in crucial areas such as security and service delivery.

 

“All eyes are on Beledweyne”

In his closing remarks, the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation talked about the situation in Beledweyne. Adding that the government is seeking permanent solutions to Somalia’s reoccurring environmental disasters.
