The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, His Excellency Ahmed Mo’allim Fiqi presented the Identification and Registration of Persons bill to lawmakers at today’s session of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
“We will not soon forget the case of Ilkase, a wanted murderer who due to identity fraud, ended up being assigned to inspect his very own murder case. This would not happen in the presence of a valid registration and identification system” , His Excellency Ahmed Fiqi, Minister of Interior Federal Affairs and Reconciliation.
This system will increase the reliability and accuracy of all registrations, including civil registrations as well as the verification of data record duplication, and will serve as the link between programs and records and other information in the country,” His Excellency Ahmed Ma’allim Fiqi added.
The bill for identification and public registration was already distributed to the public on January 9th, and it was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on January 5th.
