International Peace Day

To commemorate this year’s International Day of Peace, The Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation MoIFAR) put together a gathering that was attended by many different reconciliation and peace actors in Somalia. This included Federal and State leaders as well the civil society, business community, women’s groups, the United Nations and diplomatic missions of Somalia.

 

This year’s theme was “Stop racism, Promote Peace”.

 

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, His Excellency Ahmed Moa’llim Fiqi, thanked Somalia’s leaders and allies for commemorating this important occasion with MolFAR and expressed that the reconciliation process is a priority for the government of Somalia.  Minister Fiqi talked about MoIFAR’s place to harmonise the previous work of national reconciliation activities with the new agenda of the Government based on the vision of “Somalia at peace with itself, and with the World.” Adding that this is an excellent opportunity for Dialogue and Reconciliation.

Also in attendance was the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, His Excellency Salah Ahmed Jama, who emphasized the importance of peace to the people of Somalia who have endured over three decades of conflict, he further expressed his commitment to encouraging and supporting peaceful solutions and effective governance.

Ministers, directors and representatives from the Federal Member States, as well as representatives from the United Nations, The International Community and Diplomatic Missions in Somalia then expressed their commitment to working closely with MolFAR and the Government of Somalia to achieve a “Somalia at peace with itself and with the world.”
